Trades Assistant – Dozer/Grader/Loader Shop.
About The Role
Reporting to the
Forman - Truck Shop, the Trade Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the workshop by assisting in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy machinery. You will work closely with the trades team to ensure that equipment is maintained to high standards and operational downtime is minimized. This position is essential in supporting the team and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment within the shop.
In This Role, You Will
- Assist in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of Dozers, Graders, and Loaders
- Provide support to the trades team by preparing tools, parts, and equipment for use
- Assist with the cleaning and maintenance of machinery and workshop equipment
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work completed, parts used, and downtime
- Ensure that all work complies with NPL’s safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures
- Help organize and manage parts inventory, ensuring availability for ongoing maintenance work
- Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting machinery issues, providing support where necessary
- Follow instructions from the trades team and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely
- Uphold high standards of health and safety awareness, ensuring compliance with NPL’s Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all safety procedures.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
- Minimum of Grade 10 or above Educational level
- Able to read and write English at an Upper Secondary School Standard
- Been through Job Ready Program or Trade Training Programs
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Willingness to adhere to safety regulations and protocols.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions from Supervisors and Tradesperson
- Physically fit and able to work in different weather conditions.
- Fluency in English and/or Tok Pisin.
Mobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National Award position, a site-based role on a Walk in Walk out arrangement with rotation of 14 days on and 7 days off. Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage) and have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months). Must a Local Porgeran (Cat 1A – SML, Cat 1B –LMP or Cat 2 – Other Porgera) candidate and available to start immediately. Females are encouraged to apply.
